We deeply regret to inform that Sri Rayalu Vishwanadha no more. He passed on peacefully yesterday, 19 June 2013 around 1:45 PM IST at his residence in Vidya Nagar, Hyderabad at a ripe old age of 93. It is a great loss to the community of Vedic researchers and enthusiasts.
Though largely unnoticed by the Vedic researchers and Indologists, his contribution to the study of the Veda was enormous and he has brought in a fresh outlook towards understanding of the Veda, which is in line with the traditional path of study of the Vedas.
He retired as the chief engineer of All India Radio, in the senior most technical position in early 1980’s and took up the study of Vedas after retirement. He has produced essays on Veda, titled Vedaaravindamu (Telugu: వేదారవిందము) in 5 volumes, that are available on this website. There are several other monographs and essays that are yet to be published.
He was the elder son of the great Kavi Saamraat Sri Vishwanadha Satyanarayana (Telugu: విశ్వనాథ సత్యనారాయణ), a literary luminary in Telugu having penned several literary works covering a wide variety of subjects ranging from spirituality and philosophy to political science and sociology.
Late Sri Rayalu Vishwanadha is survived by his wife, a daughter and a son.
Sri Srinivasa Yajvan’s Svarasiddhāntacandrikā – Introduction in English
Sri K. A. Sivaramakrishna Sastri, after careful research of several manuscripts, brought out an edition of Svarasiddhāntacandrikā by Srinivasa Yajvan. This book is an exhaustive commentary on Pāṇini’s Svarasūtras.
This very well written introduction Sri K. A. Sivaramakrishna Sastri gives an overview of the origin and nature of tones / accents or svaras, their transformation and uses. He describes at length the utility and application of svaras in the Vedas. He goes on to provide an insight into ekaśruti, and its place in both Vedas and Classical Sanskrit. The reader’s attention is also drawn to an interesting aspect of this article, where he elucidates the author’s argument of the validity of applying svaras to texts in Classical Sanskrit!
This book was originally published in 1936 as part of “Annamalai University Sanskrit Series – 4”, the book can be downloaded from https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.406973
